Andrew begins by addressing how the Agile Business Consortium define Business Agility, providing us with a simple overview of its framework. He explains that at the core of Business Agility there is a focus on two primary components: the ability to adapt quickly and decisively to changes in the business environment, and to have a collaborative, people-centered approach to change.

Andrew then guides us through the problems inherent in more traditional approaches to running projects, arguing that the central problem derives from “predictive processes” which are based on the “assumption that the problem you are trying to solve is going to be stable.” In an everchanging world, stability is never guaranteed. As such, Andrew helps us grasp why Business Agility is such a valuable framework in today’s climate, with the recent COVID 19 pandemic being a prime example of unexpected change that organisations needed to adapt to - fast - in order to maintain a competitive advantage.

As Andrew demonstrates in this episode, we are simply unable to predict the state of the world in relation to the length of time our projects will take, and accordingly, Andrew sheds light on how the Business Agility framework prepares businesses for change in the best possible way, helping organizations to swim, not sink.
