This Video is about breaking news : Maharashtra Halal Lifestyle Township Controversy: Builder Pulls Down Ad After Backlash
A major row has erupted in Maharashtra over a proposed “Halal Lifestyle Township” project in Karjat, near Mumbai. The project came under fire after its promotional video claimed it would offer a safe, halal-certified environment with facilities such as prayer spaces and community-centric amenities for Muslim families.
Public Outrage and Political Reactions
The advertisement quickly went viral, sparking criticism that the township was promoting religious exclusivity. Several groups and political leaders objected, arguing that no housing project should be marketed on religious lines.
State Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule stepped in and announced that no township in the state will be allowed under the banner of “halal lifestyle.” He added that even display boards promoting such concepts would be removed.
NHRC Inquiry
Amid the controversy, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) launched an investigation after a complaint alleged that the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) had approved the project. The NHRC sought an explanation from the state government and MahaRERA within two weeks regarding the legal basis for such clearance.
Builder Withdraws Advertisement
Following the backlash, the developer behind the project has now withdrawn the promotional campaign. However, questions remain about the future of the township and whether housing schemes can be marketed around religious identity in the state.
