Approximately six years ago, a video of a brother and sister from this locality went viral in which they stated that they had lost both their parents and had no one to support them. Following the video, people across Punjab extended financial and social assistance to the siblings.
According to local residents, the brother later developed an addiction to “chitta” (a street term commonly used in Punjab for heroin or synthetic opioids). Over time, he allegedly began selling the substance as well. Residents claim that drug trafficking has been prevalent in the area and allege that no strict action was taken despite the situation. Police officials, however, maintain that they conduct regular patrols and continue monitoring the area.
On the previous day, the young man reportedly died after allegedly injecting a dose of the drug. He was taken to the Government Hospital in Sardulgarh, where, according to locals, he was declared dead. Residents allege that the hospital staff did not conduct a detailed examination before declaring him deceased and that neither the police nor any concerned department was immediately informed. These claims have not yet been independently verified.
Police authorities have stated that they routinely carry out patrols and that further investigation will determine the exact cause and circumstances of death.
