In this educational video, I presented an automation setup for material sorting based on colour using industry-proven components: the Allen Bradley Micro850 PLC, Connected Components Workbench (CCW) programming software, PanelView 800 HMI, and Factory I/O for simulation.
Project Highlights:
PLC Programming:
The control logic for sorting materials by colour was programmed using the Connected Components Workbench (CCW) and deployed to the Allen Bradley Micro850 PLC. This includes integrating inputs from vision sensors and other detectors to accurately identify and sort materials based on their colour profiles.
Vision Sensor Integration:
A vision sensor was employed to scan and identify materials as they moved along the conveyor belt. This sensor provides real-time feedback to the PLC, enabling precise identification of different materials' colours.
Sorting Mechanism:
A sorter arm, actuated by the PLC, dynamically redirects materials based on their colour attributes. This ensures that each material piece is accurately sorted into designated bins or paths according to its specific colour profile.
Counting:
The system includes functionality for sorting and counting the different colours of materials processed. This data is seamlessly integrated into the HMI (PanelView 800), providing operators with comprehensive real-time insights into sorting efficiency and material inventory.
Simulation:
The entire sorting process, from material scanning to sorting and counting, was meticulously simulated using Factory I/O. This realistic simulation environment allows for thorough testing and optimization of the sorting algorithm and equipment configuration before deployment in real-world industrial applications.
