A/An is called Indefinite article and the is called Definite article. A/An is used before singular countable nouns. We won't get any indefinite articles before plural countable nouns and uncountable nouns.
A is used before consonant sounds and An is before vowel sounds.
THE is used before Unique things, mountains, oceans, seas, rivers, lakes, group of islands, names of holy books, plural countries, superlative degree, ordinal numbers, musical instruments, the government building, important days, wars and battles, centuries, and abbreviations and Acronyms.
