Crime kingpin Tony Mokbel has avoided returning to prison after the Court of Appeal re-sentenced him to time already served for trafficking more than 40 kilograms of methamphetamine almost 20 years ago. The 60-year-old walked free after serving 13 and a half years of his original 20-year sentence, with his penalty reduced due to the Lawyer X legal scandal and overturned convictions. The judges considered his lack of prior drug convictions following the scandal, a severe brain injury from a 2019 jail bashing, and increased imprisonment burden during COVID-19.
