STARGATE is a 1994 science fiction film that would become the first entry in the Stargate franchise. It was written by Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich with Emmerich as it's director. The film stars Kurt Russell, James Spader, Jaye Davidson, Viveca Lindfors, and even features Djimon Hounsou and Richard Kind.

Archaeologists discover an ancient ring buried beneath the sands of Giza in 1928. After years of failing to unlock it's secrets, Egyptologist/Linguist Daniel Johnson (Spader) is recruited into a covert operation focused on deciphering the writings on the ring. Johnson is able to translate the language of the ring, the "Stargate," and learns that it is a gateway across the galaxy. Colonel Jack O'Neil (Russell) is assigned to lead an expedition through the gate alongside Jackson to find out what is on the other side. They could not have planned for what they would discover.
