Geelong edged out St Kilda by just one point in a low-scoring Round 1 match of the 2011 AFL season, winning 6.12 (48) to 6.11 (47) at the MCG. The game was a tough, contested battle, with both sides struggling to convert forward entries into scores. St Kilda led by one point at three-quarter time, but it was Geelong who managed to hold on when it ultimately mattered. It was Chris Scott’s first game as Geelong coach, and the narrow win helped set the tone for their eventual premiership season.
