Tape loops are used to generate rhythmical, ambient or many other styles of music, by continuously looping and progressively altering the audio on the tape. A good example of this is demonstrated by Hainbach and Look Mum No Computer in this video:

Not having access to a multi-track tape machine doesn’t mean missing out on this creative musical method, as an interesting four track looper, in combination with effects, can be created in Ableton to emulate some of the tape loop technique. This tutorial demonstrates how to build such an audio looper in Ableton Live 12.
