The Trinity Poague case shocked Americus, Georgia in January 2024. When 18-month-old Romeo "Jaxton Dru" Angeles (also known as J.D.) arrived at the emergency room brain dead, investigators quickly focused on one person: Trinity Madison Poague, an 18-year-old college student, former beauty queen, and girlfriend of the baby's father, Julian Williams. Security footage from Georgia Southwestern State University revealed Trinity Poague was the last person alone with J.D. before his catastrophic injuries. Text messages to her roommate Parris Purmort exposed disturbing statements: "I want to punch him," "He hates me and I hate him," and chillingly, "I promise I ain't killing him. Dr. Anthony Clark, the medical examiner, testified that J.D. suffered a skull fracture from ear to ear, a crushed liver, and brain hemorrhages consistent with the force of a car accident, not an accidental fall. The injuries would cause symptoms within seconds to minutes, establishing a critical timeline. While J.D. fought for his life, Trinity Poague's phone searches revealed her state of mind: "How do you get a brain bleed?" and "Can a depressed skull fracture go unnoticed?" At the Americus Police Department, she searched for images of skull fractures while waiting to be interviewed by the GBI. The trial in Georgia saw conflicting testimonies. Trinity Poague gave approximately five different versions of events to investigators. The prosecution, led by District Attorney Lewis Lamb, presented overwhelming evidence including the 35-minute window when Julian Williams was at Walmart and Pizza Hut, leaving Trinity alone with J.D. The jury delivered their verdict: Not guilty of malice murder, but guilty of felony murder, two counts of aggravated battery, and first-degree cruelty to children. Judge W. James Sizemore Jr. sentenced Trinity Madison Poague to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years. Deputy Coroner testimony, campus police security footage, and forensic evidence from the GBI crime lab in Macon painted an undeniable picture. Lieutenant Timothy Allen's initial interview at the hospital revealed inconsistencies in Trinity's story about potato chips and a chair fall that never happened. Defense attorney W.T. "Tim" Gamble III argued the investigation was flawed, but the medical evidence and timeline were irrefutable. Testimony from Parris Purmort, along with other dormmates like Megan Pitts, established a pattern of resentment toward the child. This is the story of Romeo "J.D." Angeles, a victim who deserves to be remembered. This is Voices for the Voiceless.
