The Pirouettes: 2002-2003
'From the streets of Nottingham (and Liverpool), The Pirouettes boast a potent mix of articulate garage rock, trashy sleaze-pop, stylish rock‘n’roll swagger and planet-sized choruses. These boys bring the noise, the poise and heart-stopping tunes by the skipfull.'
''Don't Fight The Feeling' is a 3 minute sleaze-pop classic, where the Velvet Underground's amphetamine tang meets Primal Scream’s trashy garage rock.'
“If The Vines over-imbibed on narcotic substances and came from Nottingham instead of down under, they’d be The Pirouettes." Radio One
'After a year spent writing songs and honing their sound, the Pirouettes are a whirl of activity. The group has been frantically recording, writing new material, producing a self-financed CD release, shooting a video (for ‘Don’t Fight the Feeling’) as well as completing songs and incidental music for the Adrian Banton-produced supernatural thriller “Messages of Grief”.
Singer and guitarist Neil Anderson has a voice to die for; an impressive hybrid of Nick Cave and Roy Orbison, coupled with the guitar-toting swagger of Brian Jones. Bass player Liam Maloy is the group’s main songwriter and provides backing vocals. His notebooks are full of embryonic anthems. Drummer Matt Cousin is also a member of space-rockers Los Planetos Del Agua. When he’s not creating those thrilling melodies, second guitarist John Cox is a rock’n’roll animal and infamous swinger about town.
The group enjoyed a good deal of exposure from Radio One Live in Nottingham; Steve Lamacq played ‘Don’t Fight the Feeling’ on his show, while both Lamacq and John Peel listed the band on their unsigned web-sites.
