Pinfold found no evidence for Iran's claim that US bases in the Gulf are being used to strike it, pointing to Gulf states' pre-war demands that Washington not use their facilities.
He described Iran's strategy as one of "chaos," attacking all Gulf states to pressure Washington into a ceasefire by making the war too costly, even at the expense of burning bridges with regional neighbours.
He noted a disconnect between UAE official Anwar Gargash's suggestion that a "breakthrough is in reach" and Iran's belligerent posture.
While dialogue may continue post-war, Pinfold concluded there is now "no love lost" between Gulf publics and Iran, which has repeatedly targeted civilians across the region.
