This is one of the few times I weld AR500 to a target system. It is the armor portion of the Auto-Reset Plate Rack by Innovative Targets (https://innovativetargets.net/). It's sole purpose is to protect the reactive components from direct impacts.
I had already spot welded the 2 parts in the correct orientation and cleaned the mating surfaces prior to the video. I MIG weld in the tight areas for easier post weld cleaning, but I like a good 7018 when joining AR500 to mild steel. A little preheat never hurts anything, but I do not do that on this assembly. You do have to watch your temperature during the welding process, though. If you get it too hot, it will lose its temper (also known as annealing the metal). I've built this system many times and am very aware of how for I can travel without getting it too hot, or you would see me with an infrared thermometer checking temps.
