Rodeo Clown [Dijon cover w/ ERAE Touch, Octatrack MKII & Microcosm]

The setup for this was pretty basic, I used the Octatrack to loop the main guitar part and to "remix" that main loop during the chorus. The clavinet-like sound coming in at 0:49 is actually the main guitar but pitched up an octave and sliced up a little. I also applied some filtering to the main loop in the outro. The Digitakt is playing the plucky sound at 1:41, which I control with the ERAE Touch. That melody goes through the Microcosm which adds the weird pitch-shift effect as well as the reverb later on.

The microphone is the same I used in my Childish Gambino cover a while back (   • 3005 [Childish Gambino cover]  ), it's made from an old telephone and has that authentic lo-fi sound which I adooore. I think its sound pairs very well with autotune too.

Most elements were recorded onto separate tracks and I mixed the whole thing inside Logic Pro X. I added some reverb/delay and I mastered the result with Izotope Ozone 9. I also did some edits here and there.


This is quite a departure from my usual stuff but that Dijon album inspired me like crazy, it carries a crazy energy and singing felt like the right thing to do.
