On a late Friday afternoon I was drive from Valjevo to the outskirts, where I could find the Celije Monastery.
The Ćelije Monastery (Serbian: Manastir Ćelije) is a Serbian Orthodox monastery dedicated to St. Archangel Michael. It was founded in the late 13th century. Today, monastery is surrounded with tall trees, so cannot be seen from far.
Celije monastery is located on the left bank of the Gradac in the Lelic village district near Valjevo.
Celije were turned into a parochial church in 1837, and in 1928 it was decided for it to become a female monastery, which it still is today.
