You’ve seen the niche stuff, so how about a general guide for the stage that showcases what proper execution can do for you. I’ll Be Bug is deceptively simple with proper execution, and most folks struggle here because they just can’t time their units (specifically Roe) and/or don’t have the best combos present. Fortunately, the combos present here are both easy to obtain and solve the two main issues of beating the stage while in SoL: low level caps and tougher-than-usual timings.
The defense up combo allows Courier to tank 3 weakened Professor A. hits, which, if slow RNG does not interfere, gives Courier the chance to attack Professor again. Bahamut can also tank an extra Professor A. hit, particularly against an unweakened Professor.
Bio-bone brings Roe’s cooldown relative to every two Queen V attacks, so as long as you time your first Roe correctly and quickly deploy every Roe after, there will be no risk of them getting hit by Queen V. Additionally, Courier becomes very spammable.
Average Run: (0:00)
Early Bahamut Death: (2:10)
Untouched Bahamut: (4:52)
Another Average Run, but I use Manic Island more, probably: (7:00)
Strategy:
To begin, send in a Maglev at 1500-2000¢ (about 8 seconds into the stage) to chip Professor A. and trigger an attack from Queen V. If he gets slowed, exit and re-enter the stage (it won’t cost energy). This will leave Professor A. slightly in front of Queen V after his first knockback. Next, let the Ginger Snache right onto your base.
As much as it irks me, spending the resources to get a 128k HP base allows you to consistently use it as a sandbag to keep Roe unharmed, and gives Roe just enough time to push the Snache off the base before he destroys it. Then, you can deploy a second Roe and wait until the second Snache to hit them both with Courier. Immediately follow this up with a Maglev to kill the second Snache so he can’t stop Roe from getting into Queen V’s blindspot and onto Professor A. Once Roe weakens Professor A., time your units as explained above and aim for two knockbacks on Professor A. before One Horn gets in the way.
If you knock Professor A. back twice early, try and stall out a little without knocking Queen V back too. You want this first One Horn to walk right up to your Roe stack so Professor A. can’t swat away your Couriers and keep him alive for much longer than you want. Before or after you kill One Horn, Queen V should also get knocked back. While it isn’t necessarily necessary, I would recommend adjusting your Courier and Roe timing to this shift, since everything extra helps.
At this point, wait until your Roe stack gets back to Professor A. and weakens him again. Then, make sure Bahamut doesn’t get sniped by Queen V, and try to time your Thunderbolt to let Bahamut get the first hit in unbothered. After that, hope for the best, and should things go well, Bahamut will have killed Professor A. without dying himself, allowing you to kill Queen V and destroy the base unimpeded.
If Bahamut does die, as seen in the second run, you can still kill Professor and Queen V before the second Professor spawns, so long as Bahamut finished off the first Relic Doge. This is mostly dependent on the Roes in front weakening Professor A. so your Couriers can finish him off, but you never know what might happen, so see each of these kinds of runs through to the end.
Extra, Technical Notes:
Although timing is half the battle, the entire stage is really determined by where Professor A. ends up after his first knockback. If he is in front of Queen V, you get what you do in the video. If he is behind, then he can’t be weakened by Roe, is blocked by a 200k HP wall, and denies Courier and Manic Island from getting any damage in. Plus, if you want to kill Professor from there, you have to deal with that same position 3 times.
Though it isn’t shown in the video, it is very easy to deal with the second Professor and Relic Doges so long as you’ve kill the first one. If Bahamut dies, don’t panic and find the Roe timing to keep pressure on him and the second One Horn (usually around when Queen V descends after attacking), since you have about 50 seconds more to score that kill. Save Bahamut for the last two Relic Doges.
If you’re actually attempting this while in SoL, Manic Island is a huge pain in the posterior to get, so it’s better to just use Crazed Fish, or whatever substitutes work. Fishman is probably the best, since he can still do chip damage to the first One Horn, and quickly knock Queen V back, or kill her quickly if Bahamut died to Professor A.
