POWER UP YOUR REVISION! ⚡🔌
In this video, we use Active Recall to drill the essential facts for GCSE Physics Unit 2: Electricity. This is a core unit for your Paper 1 exam and contains some of the most common 6-mark practical questions.
From drawing circuit diagrams to calculating the cost of energy in the home, we cover every specification point for AQA, Edexcel, and OCR
-- WHAT WE COVER TODAY --
✅ Circuit Symbols: LDRs, Thermistors, Diodes, and more.
✅ Current, Potential Difference & Resistance: The V = I x R equation.
✅ Series vs Parallel: How current and voltage behave in different circuits.
✅ I-V Characteristics: The graphs for Ohmic conductors, Filament lamps, and Diodes.
✅ Domestic Mains: AC/DC, 230V, 50Hz, and the 3-pin plug.
✅ Power & Energy: The P = I x V and E = P x t calculations.
✅ The National Grid: Transformers and why we use high voltage.
✅ Static Electricity (Triple Only): Electric fields and sparking.
-- HOW TO USE THIS VIDEO --
PAUSE the video when the circuit diagram or calculation appears.
CALCULATE the missing value or name the component out loud.
PLAY to check against the mark-scheme.
REPEAT until you can draw the "Filament Lamp" graph from memory!
-- THE "CIRCUIT" CHEAT SHEET --
Don't mix up your series and parallel rules:
SERIES: Current is the SAME everywhere; Voltage is SHARED.
PARALLEL: Current is SHARED; Voltage is the SAME across branches.
And remember the wire colours in a plug:
LIVE = Brown (bottom right)
NEUTRAL = Blue (bottom left)
EARTH = Yellow/Green (top)
