Alyea Pierce, a Performance Poet and Author, performed her dynamic, poignant, and powerful spokenword poetry to deconstruct the complex dichotomy between the beauty and pain of the Cancer disease.
She was excited to have won the Student Speaker competition, and speak on an issue that has affected over 12.6 million people per year and is so dear to her heart.
Alyea Pierce is an author, poet, and playwright, who is a “real nice cook up” of the West
Indies. Pierce’s work has been featured on the stages of the Apollo Theatre and Broadway's New Amsterdam Theatre in New York, as well as various TEDx events, and universities across the States. Her work has been published in the Caribbean Writer, and she is the 2016 playwright-in-residence and actress for the Strength Out of Shadows Theatre company. Alyea is studying for her Master’s of Education at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
