The Ebony Graphite Pencil in this set is said to be mainly used for sketching, drawing, and layout makings.
The pencil is in some words and can be described as very pigmented, especially when you put pressure on the pencil when drawing. The color comes out very smooth and dark.
Even when you go lightly with the graphite pencil its color is very dark and a bit difficult to rub out cleanly with the plastic eraser provided in the kit.
I would suggest using this pencil in your sketches, drawings, and layouts after practicing. Practice to control the shadings and overall look of blending with this pencil, because it is very hard to control the darkness it brings if it is your first time.
I found it difficult using this pencil alone, everything just seemed to be too dark for me at the first try in a sketch, but I know it will get better with practice.
You could use this pencil by itself for maybe the darker areas of your drawing, such as the areas in the hair, eyes, lips, and basically the areas with a darker shadow or transition to the rest of the drawing.
This should make it easier for you to use this pencil, or it could serve as a beginner level to start with before moving in and eventually drawing with the graphite pencil alone.
A pencil is an implement for writing or drawing, constructed of a narrow, solid pigment core in a protective casing that prevents the core from being broken or marking the user's hand.
Pencils create marks by physical abrasion, leaving a trail of solid core material that adheres to a sheet of paper or other surface. They are distinct from pens, which dispense liquid or gel ink onto the marked surface.
Most pencil cores are made of graphite powder mixed with a clay binder. Graphite pencils (traditionally known as "lead pencils") produce grey or black marks that are easily erased, but otherwise resistant to moisture, most chemicals, ultraviolet radiation and natural aging. Other types of pencil cores, such as those of charcoal, are mainly used for drawing and sketching. Coloured pencils are sometimes used by teachers or editors to correct submitted texts, but are typically regarded as art supplies, especially those with cores made from wax-based binders that tend to smear when erasers are applied to them. Grease pencils have a softer, oily core that can leave marks on smooth surfaces such as glass or porcelain.
The most common pencil casing is thin wood, usually hexagonal in section but sometimes cylindrical or triangular, permanently bonded to the core. Casings may be of other materials, such as plastic or paper. To use the pencil, the casing must be carved or peeled off to expose the working end of the core as a sharp point. Mechanical pencils have more elaborate casings which are not bonded to the core; instead, they support separate, mobile pigment cores that can be extended or retracted (usually through the casing's tip) as needed. These casings can be reloaded with new cores (usually graphite) as the previous ones are exhausted.
A graphite pencil, also called a lead pencil, is a type of pencil in which a thin graphite core is embedded in a shell of other material. The pencil shell is mostly wooden, but can be made of plastic or recycled paper.
Prismacolor is a brand of professional artists' supplies originated by Berol in 1938, and currently manufactured by Newell Brands. Products in the Prismacolor line are colored and graphite pencils, and soft pastels. Other products include erasers, pencil sharpeners, and cases.
In past years, Prismacolor produced watercolor paintings and charcoals.
The Eagle Pencil Company founded in the 1800s in Yonkers, New York on John Street. After 5 years, Daniel Berozlzheimer's son Henry purchased the city's first iron-framed building for the new factory. The company produced pens, pencils, pen holders and erasers. In 1897, the London branch confirmed the policy of selling manufactured goods with high quality. Over the years, the company changed focus and goods. In 1952, Margros Ltd was founded by Mr. P.G.Hooley, who invented Powdered Colour and sold it directly to schools. The business grew and the company was sold to Eagle Pencil Company in 1967.
The company which later became Osmiroid International was started in 1824 by James Perry who joined his brother in the pen‑making business.
In 1989, the company was bought by Berol Ltd. The Newell Company joined forces with Berol on November 2, 1995. The merging of the two companies made Berol a branch of the Sanford Corporation.
One of Prismacolor's main products is their colored pencils. They have two lines of colored pencils called Scholar and Premier. Scholar pencils are made with a hard type of wax and tend to have less pigmentation than the premier line.
