Melanie Gibb, Lori Vallow Daybell's former best friend, took the stand Thursday. She testified about Lori and Chad Daybell's relationship. A recorded phone call between Gibb and Vallow was played in court. On the cross, Gibb agreed that many of Lori's responses did not include Chad ("I had to move JJ" and not "we had to move JJ"), implying that Lori acted alone. 55-year-old defendant Chad Daybell faces three counts of first-degree murder. He is accused of killing his former wife Tammy, and his current wife's two children: 16-year-old Tylee Ryan and 7-year-old Joshua ''JJ'' Vallow. Chad and Lori Daybell appear to have been convinced that the end of times was approaching and that dark spirits were taking over the souls of various people in their lives. They purportedly believed that the dark spirits were turning people into zombies and that they needed to "eliminate," or kill those people to save their souls. His trial is slated to last ten weeks.
