1994-04-22 Friday evening (SA time)
1953 Helen Suzman elected to parliament, retired 1989. Active opponent of Apartheid, progressive gadfly. In 1985, Mamelodi, December 3, 1985, she called on government to stop killing people in townships, lift state of emergency. Now, she's part of Independent Electoral Commission.
She says she never thought this day would come without some sort of coup d'état. Whites are worried about standards dropping, apprehension, will standards go down? Some whites want to leave, but none that she knows of. Probably more likely to be younger generation. [see also • Mugabe reassures white South Africans [1994] ]

SA's people are "survivors."
Bernie throws it to "Helen" in London, but he probably meant Hillary, as in Bowker, as part of CNN's "International Hour"
