I had a large 24V 31.5Ah battery that was faulty so I determined after lots of hours testing that 3 cells were faulty, 36 were excellent and 9 were out of spec but still useable.
So I decided to make some battery packs out of the good cells starting with a small 12 volt powerbank which connects to an automotive USB-C PD car charger.
The trick to making a safe battery pack, something that is not often mentioned in DIY battery pack videos is that the cells must be matched especially when putting them in parallel. If one cell has a higher capacity and / or voltage than the other, large currents can flow and bad things will happen. This is especially the case with Lithium Ion cells - cell matching in any battery pack using new or old cells is very important. Do not skip this...
Important factors like internal resistance, state of charge and voltage are all crucial when matching cells.
I make a 10Ah 2P4S configuration battery which can charge phones, tablets etc. Unfortunately the crappy Chinese automotive charger panel would not output 12V ultra fast charging despite claiming so on the label.
Note that lithium batteries are dangerous if you do not know what you are doing. They can explode, catch fire and be almost impossible to put out once alight. Do not attempt to build your own battery if you do not understand things mentioned in the video.
