Our First Yes In Almost A Year | Getting Ready For New Foster Placements

After almost a year without new foster placements, our phone rang about a sibling set, one boy and one girl, and we said yes. In this vlog I take you along for the whirlwind of what happens next when you get that call as a foster parent.

From that first phone conversation to talking with their current foster mom, to late night Walmart runs, to setting up the crib and rearranging car seats, to cleaning out the van and getting the house ready, you will see a real life picture of what it looks like to prepare for kids who may arrive with very little and a whole lot on their hearts.

I talk about:

‣ How little information you sometimes get before saying yes
‣ Grabbing last minute car seats, diapers, clothes, toys and toothbrushes
‣ Nesting like I am having a baby and purging toys to make room
‣ Leaning on our “village” of other foster parents, family and church
‣ The tension between my excitement and the grief these kids are walking through
‣ That first week home with them, including sickness, visits, snow storms and trying to build a new routine

You will also hear from Matt as we drive to pick them up and he shares honestly about his mix of excitement and nerves, and why it matters to keep remembering what this feels like for the children who are being moved again.

If you are a current or future foster parent, or you are simply curious what it is really like from the call to bringing kids home, I hope this gives you a gentle, honest window into our process. We feel so honored to love these little ones for as long as they are with us.
