This is a demo of a 1947 Stromberg Carlson Console. The machine was first supplied with a 78 only knife-style record changer. Two years later in 1949 the short lived 2 speed record changer was installed to upgrade the unit to allow to play the newly introduced long playing micro groove records. Not long after this model was produced, RCA introduced their version of microgroove recording with the 45. Webster Chicago offered an conversion kit and inserts for the records.
This tonearm has a lever at the rear that changes the balance of the tracking and originally controlled a rocking crystal cartridge to change styli between standard 78s and micro groove LPs. This has been changed out with a modern ceramic cartridge.
The changer was serviced by "The Crooked Spindle" here on YouTube
The elaborately designed Receiver Chassis features a motor that changes the selection between one of the 5 radio bands and the phonograph. You can hear the buzz as the phonograph was chosen.
