The video surveillance system has developed thanks to the numerous and varied applications.
Initially the video surveillance system was used as a deterrent to criminal acts, Today, however, video
surveillance not only performs this function but also becomes a tool used to prevent unwanted events thanks
to the ability to process images through video analysis.
With the evolution of technology and computer science, in addition to video surveillance systems made with
analog cameras, can be made video surveillance systems with IP cameras.
There are many advantages Thanks to the use of IP cameras:
• these system allow to obtain images with high resolution;
• we have a reduction in wiring;
• we have easily scalable solutions, so it is possible to expand the existing system according to the needs
requested by the customer;
• it is possible to integrate video analysis.
The video analysis, that is the analysis of data flow, allows in fact to identify thanks to specific algorithms of image analysis, abnormal situations, highlighting previously predefined dangerous situations.
The strenght of the video surveillance system is that it allows remote control of areas potentially subject to
risks to ensure the safety of goods or people.
For this reason, this system is integrated with other security
systems, such as the intrusion and access control system, or the smoke detection system, so it is possible to
verify the veracity of the alarm signal.
The main change that revolutionized the function of video surveillance systems was therefore the integration
of video analysis into IP cameras, which is why today we talk about "intelligent" video surveillance.
With the video analysis, it is possible to create different solutions:
• a system to detect intrusion into a controlled area, defining for example in the perimeter of a building,
multiple crossing lines thanks to which it is possible to increase the reliability of the alarm.
• A system to control areas with restricted or dangerous access and therefore the passage of unauthorised
persons generates an alarm signal;
• A system that detects the presence of abandoned objects, wich may be a potential risk in public areas
such as stations or airports;
• A system that detects the presence of flames or smoke in outdoor environments, such as petrol stations,
railway tracks or airports;
• A system that signals the presence of masked faces that do not allow access.
These anomalous situations, are automatically identified and consequently signalled through a notification
or alarm signal.
In order to avoid false alarms, it is essential to be able to discriminate and filter scenarios and situations
due to, for example, atmospheric agents or other disturbances, in order to make the alarm signal reliable.
Intelligent video surveillance has therefore become a support tool for security operators.

affect the safety of people and goods.
Video surveillance systems are used for many purposes in addition to those already listed, for example for
the monitoring of nursing homes, where thanks to the camera you can detect situations of people on the
ground, allowing personnel to intervene in a timely manner.
