BRIG. GEN. BAINABABO: ‘Women Are Ready!’ Inside Uganda’s Historic All-Women Parade

Описание: As Uganda prepares to celebrate International Women’s Day, Charity Bainababo calls on Ugandans to witness a historic moment at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
For the first time, the national parade will feature only women in uniform from the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF), Uganda Police Force (UPF), Uganda Prisons Service, and the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA).
Brig. Gen. Bainababo says the women are fully prepared and ready to deliver a spectacular parade on March 8, showcasing the strength, discipline, and capability of women serving Uganda in uniform.
In this address, she reflects on the history of women’s struggle for equality, tracing the roots of women’s rights movements back to the early 20th century and highlighting how the fight for better pay, justice, and recognition shaped what we now celebrate as International Women’s Day.
She also speaks about the growing role of women in Uganda’s security forces, from the days of the liberation struggle to today, where women are rising through the ranks as senior officers and commanders within the UPDF.
The UPDF Women’s Affairs Directorate is also marking the celebrations by giving back to the community through a medical camp in Kamwokya, demonstrating the army’s commitment as a people’s force.
Brig. Gen. Bainababo concludes with a message to Ugandansencouraging wealth creation, skills development, and participation in government programs like the Parish Development Model to ensure inclusive national development.
