Somerset Place Becomes a State Historic Site

Описание: The General Assembly established Somerset Place as a State Historic Site in the 1960s and appropriated funds for continued restoration. The interior of the Collins Home was decorated and furnished; the Bathhouse was reconstructed to supply the site with HVAC; and the Colony House was renovated to serve as a visitor center and office. Somerset Place, once one of the largest plantations in antebellum North Carolina and now a representative state historic site, is open to the public Tuesday - Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It is our aim to offer visitors a comprehensive social history exploring the family life of all former plantation residents: the enslaved community, plantation owners, and hired white and Black employees.
