Julian Assange’s lawyer Jennifer Robinson says if he is refused permission to appeal to the UK High Court – “that’s it” – as it is a “very dangerous situation” for him.
Assange has made several attempts to avoid being extradited to the US, and now the WikiLeaks founder has one last avenue of appeal in the UK.
If the High Court grants his appeal, he can plea the case in court, but if it is rejected, he will have run out of legal options in the country where he has long been imprisoned.
There is growing cross-party support from Australian politicians for Assange to be released.
“If we’re refused permission to appeal this week – that’s it,” Ms Robinson told Sky News Australia.
“We are, of course, prepared for the worst, that if he is unsuccessful this week, there will be an order for his extradition to the United States, and our final avenue for appeal is the European Court for Human Rights.
“It’s a very dangerous situation for him.”
