In this video, we take you through the process of inspecting and evaluating a rare 82-year-old Real LIfe Comics 15 from 1942! Watch as we carefully go step-by-step through the unboxing and inspection of this WWII book. THis book cover was done by the legendary Alex Schomburg!
One fascinating thing about Alex Schomburg is his unparalleled legacy as one of the most prolific and distinctive Golden Age comic book cover artists, especially known for his **detailed and action-packed wartime covers.
What makes Schomburg truly stand out is how he transformed comic book covers into dense, cinematic battle scenes—especially for Timely Comics (which would later become Marvel). His covers for characters like Captain America, the Human Torch, and Sub-Mariner during World War II were bursting with imaginative sci-fi machinery, explosive action, and Nazi-fighting heroism. These illustrations weren't just covers—they were almost entire stories in a single image.
A particularly fascinating detail: he rarely used reference photos or models. Schomburg created complex machinery and futuristic tech entirely from imagination, making his art feel both technically intricate and wildly inventive. He also had a background in airbrushing and technical illustration, which gave his work a level of polish and precision that set it apart from many of his contemporaries.
He continued to work in the comics and pulp art world for decades, eventually being honored with the Eisner Hall of Fame award in 1999, just a year before he passed away at the age of 92.

Pure Full strength Calcium Hydroxide solution recipe (Make this first):
1/4 tsp Calcium Hydroxide powder (very little)
1 liter water
Mix thoroughly. Let stand until the excess Calcium Hydroxide, if any, settles to the bottom. The clear liquid above is what you will use.
Mix this in a 1 part CaOH2 to 4 parts water
Add 5 drops of Triton X-100 (surfactant)
Make a second batch but without the Triton X-100. This will be you rinse.
Now you have the the wash and the rinse!
