Описание:
A Medieval fantasy for organ based on the plainchant hymn Ut Queant Laxis.
The piece is in nine sections, each of which uses the plainchant melody or one of its permutations.
The sections trace the development of Western polyphony from roughly 1100 to 1450.
The plainchant hymn Ut Queant Laxis was made famous by the Benedictine monk Guido d’Arrezo (11th century). Guido noted that the first syllable of each phrase of the chant begins on a successively higher note. He used the syllables as a teaching aid for the first six notes of the scale: UT – RE – MI – FA – SO – LA. The syllable “Ut" was changed to "Do" in the 17th century for easier singing. This is the basis of the DO – RE – MI scale that we all know from the Sound of Music and from music classes.
