Addiction can be a cunning disease, it plays with your mind all the time. It hides behind your ego to get to you...to deceive you. Although many substances are prohibited by law, however, there are still some, like alcohol and Cannabis, that are legal (in many places) and have become a part of social life. This makes it even harder to spot signs of addiction. How to tell if someone is just a heavy drinker/smoker or they are masking an underlying issue?
One way to find out is to look for signs in any of the 3 dimensions of an individual's life: personal, interpersonal and socio-occupational. If, any of these 3 dimensions are being impacted negatively; there is a problem of addiction.
