Yes, the new Ace AI is much better and you have to manage your engine settings to keep it from blowing up. This Lagg3 is flying along at 5000 meters, a lot higher than most of the fighting on the Russian front, but I wanted to get up there to show how you have to change engine settings as you change altitude. RPM is your engines enemy now, the faster any machine runs the more heat it makes and the less reliable it will be, so I would try to keep my rpms on all aircraft generally at or slightly below 2500 in combat with short trips towards 3000 in life or death situations. Just cruising I would set the rpm and throttle as low as possible while still getting the speed you want.
At the beginning of the video you can see me move the prop pitch and mixture to 80% and the supercharger to stage 2, also I jack up the radiator all the way. Usually in a turning fight having the radiator wide open is not going to make enough of a difference to get you shot down, but if you cook your engine because it is closed, that will get you in trouble.
As the fight progresses down in altitude at one point I switch the supercharger back to stage 1 and bump the mixture back up to 100% because if I did not the engine would be running lean and it would overheat or detonate. Luckily for me I have a long-time hobby and career as a mechanic and have always been an enthusiast of vehicles powered by internal combustion engines, so I know much more about them than most people. Also an old friend of mine was an aircraft engineer and mechanic during WWII, so I got some good insight from him also.
After I dispense with the two Ace 109s, I fly away and play with the new head-movement feature a bit, which is part of the
