Mesh tape in drywall corners. Does it work?

Usually only paper drywall tape is used in drywall corners, however, I've experienced that many DIY beginners and home-owners who are learning how to tape mud and finish drywall have used drywall mesh tape in corners when finishing drywall, which is a bad idea, and I'll show why.
