4. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Wang Yi, Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China:
"In relation to the particular case you are raising, I need to let you know first of all that according to Hong Kong's Basic Law and the People's Republic of China's International Law, this person is Chinese. Above all he is a Chinese citizen. Therefore, what I want to stress is that if he himself, or his relatives, or any officials from the Hong Kong government or the (Chinese) Central People's Government have not yet expressed any concern, I think it is out of place to make assumptions or meaningless speculations."

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Philip Hammond, UK Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs:
"Mr Lee Bo, who is a British passport holder, has gone missing and we have urgently enquired, both of the Hong Kong authorities and of the mainland Chinese authorities, what, if anything, they know of his whereabouts. CY Leung, the Chief Executive of Hong Kong, said that he's very concerned by the disappearance. I have raised the issue with Minister Wang Yi this afternoon. We are seeking any information that the authorities, either in Hong Kong or in China, have."

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Philip Hammond, UK Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs:
"Our view is that the (Hong Kong) Basic Law, the (Sino-British) Joint Declaration, the principle of 'one country-two systems' (between China and Hong Kong) means that, in a question of any breach of Hong Kong laws, the question must be settled in Hong Kong, by the Hong Kong judicial system. That's an essential part of the 'one country-two systems'."

10. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Wang Yi, Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China:
"The political way of solving the conflict might be very difficult, but this is the only solution to solve the problem at its root. China will continue with our own way in order to promote a political solution for the problems in Syria."

STORYLINE:
Britain's Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond met his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on Tuesday and raised the subject of a UK passport holder who has gone missing in Hong Kong.
Referring to Lee Bo, chief editor of the Hong Kong publisher Mighty Current, Hammond stated that British authorities were "seeking information" from Chinese and Hong Kong authorities as to his whereabouts.
In contrast, Wang stressed that the man was above all a Chinese citizen and that it would be "out of place to make assumptions or meaningless speculations."
Hong Kong police earlier said Lee's wife had cancelled the report of his disappearance, but that they would continue investigations into four other people who vanished with him in October.
Bo and the four others were associated with publisher Mighty Current, which specialises in books critical of China's Communist Party leaders.
