Mohra -NIFT Delhi FC Craft Cluster Documentary on Metal Craft of Chamba

Описание: The Craft Cluster aims to provide students with exposure to the handloom and handicraft clusters, thereby opening up the doors to constant exploration and innovation. Through this initiative, NIFT aims to reach out to the artisans and craftsmen at the grass-root level. The department of Fashion Communication of NIFT Delhi had the opportunity to visit Himachal Pradesh and study their unique crafts as a part of the Craft Cluster, in the academic year 2019.

Our project includes studying the craft of Metal Sculpture and Metal Beating of Chamba along with the lives of the craftsmen over a period of six days. The document focuses on various facets of the craft such as the history, evolution, process, techniques, materials, market, government initiatives and drawbacks.

Our artisan Prakash Anand Ji not only helped us with our craft but introduced us to the locality, culture and customs of Chamba. His never-ending stories were always surprising and something to ponder on. Hiking up the hill to the Chamunda Devi Temple listening to his stories was utmost blissful. The enthusiasm he carried was truly something to look upon and get inspired from.

The aim of our project is curating not just the understanding and in-depth knowledge of the crafts but the value and appreciation for it.
