Update on Caitlin & Carter Belgian Draft horses saved from slaughter in Arkansas and another rescue.

Описание: WHAT A WEEK IT HAS BEEN! SIX BELGIAN DRAFT HORSES HAVE BEEN SAVED! On March 9, 2025, because of all our amazing supporters, we rescued a bonded Belgian Draft horse mare and gelding from shipping to slaughter from a kill pen on Arkansas (Caitlin and Carter). The same week, an anonymous donor paid the full bail and transport for a Belgian Draft horse mare at another kill pen in Stroud, Oklahoma. While working on these two out of state rescues, our foundation was also working on and organizing a rescue of a filly and gelding Belgian Draft horses from a kill pen in McLean, Texas. All the horses we were working to rescue needed a soft landing and retirement home after years of being worked on Amish farms. When you see the condition of these horses, you will be shocked at the abuse they have endured. This video is what happened with all the rescues last week and how all the Belgian Draft horses are doing since arriving to the farm.

We were able to rescue 6 Belgian Draft horses last week because of all of our donors, supports and followers! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH for your support and generosity! Without you, rescuing these horses would not be possible!

We have a fundraiser going for all the medical bills for the 74 equines we have rescued since the beginning of September 2024. We could definitely use your support with this fundraiser as well. We have also created a fundraiser for feed! With soon to be 84 horses and 14 donkeys on the farm, we need all the help we can get with feeding the herd and giving them the retirement life they deserve!

Another way to support us is with feed...the one item WE always need is FEED! If you would like to send a gift/donation of feed (Alfa Pro or beardless wheat) you can send that through our local feed store, HF & C Amarillo. When you call, tell them you are sending a gift to Fletcher Farms Amarillo/Big Hoof Foundation and they will add the gifts to our account.

We are feeding the herd round bales of beardless wheat and the horses go through about 6 bales every few days. A round bale of beardless wheat is $140. We also use small square bales of beardless wheat and can be purchased through HF&C Amarillo for $14.95 each. Our special needs horses also eat Alfa-Pro which is a complete pelleted alfalfa mixed with vitamins and minerals. Alfa-Pro is $17.45 per bag. They do offer a discount if you purchase by the pallet (40 - 50 pound bags) $16.95 per bag if purchased by the pallet.

The herd also eats fresh alfalfa and they eat 4 bales per day. If you would like to send the horses a gift of alfalfa you can do that through Mauls Feed and Seed. We use Mauls for alfalfa because it is grown locally here in Amarillo and they are priced the best in town.
