Today I tried something completely different…
I built a fishing rod from a coconut leaf stick under light rain in the middle of the rice fields — using nothing but a knife, a cloth strip, and some thread. Even though the rain kept falling, I decided to continue the craft. If I wasn’t serious about this test, I would’ve stopped… but I wanted to finish it for you.
It was a quick 3-minute build, but the result honestly surprised me.
This tiny stick rod actually works.
And not just “works” — it pulled fish again and again in a narrow 75–150 cm river stream.
In this video you’ll see:
• finding a fallen coconut leaf in the rain
• carving out the long flexible stick
• binding three sticks together to create the rod
• spiral-wrapping the tip for strength
• crafting a natural ultra-light rod in minutes
• live field test in a tiny river during light rain
• multiple strikes from wader fish, trout-type fish, and other tiny river species
• catch & release, fully natural fishing
This homemade rod bends beautifully, has amazing sensitivity, and proves how little you actually need to catch fish in the wild — even in the rain.
If you enjoy DIY fishing gear, micro river fishing, and simple outdoor craft, this video is for you.
Everything was filmed entirely on location — no workshop, no shelter, just nature, rain, and pure field craft.
Thank you for watching.
