The Forest is exquisite, a beautiful sound, its quietness is haunting and evocative. It sets a new path for Geary’s sound. It builds to a crescendo reminiscent of overflowing verdant Summer Irish forests. His storytelling reflects lived experience; “two boys with no choice” a reference to the youngest brothers in a family of ten, his brother Karl and himself, who relocated to New York in 1992. Talented musician Ruth O’Mahony [ROMY] plays keyboards and produced the track.

Mark says: “I woke up from a dream and there was a storm outside the window here in the Forest. One of those real cinematic storms, with trees bending and lightning. I kept looking out at it all night and the thought occurred to me that some nights there’s a tempest – whether it’s outside or in you. The day after, I wrote the song in one burst. Writing about lonesomeness, ‘my’ forest, my childhood, my beautiful brother, my chaotic father. The refrain ‘come into the light – come into the light’ was a mantra; a release.”
