Cruise Tragedy in Madhya Pradesh Claims 9 Lives, Raises Safety Questions | India Today

Описание: A devastating tragedy has struck Madhya Pradesh after a cruise boat capsized in Bargi Dam, Jabalpur during a sudden storm, claiming the lives of nine people, including children. Around 30 tourists from Delhi and Tamil Nadu were onboard when the incident occurred, despite a yellow weather alert for strong winds in the region.

Rescue operations were severely hampered due to the remote location, strong water currents, and adverse weather conditions. Army divers recovered several bodies from the submerged cabin.

Preliminary reports suggest serious negligence, with allegations that life jackets were not distributed to passengers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh for the victims, while the Madhya Pradesh government declared ₹4 lakh compensation and ordered a high-level investigation into the incident.
