Every year a new Royal Gold Medal is minted as part of the Royal Institute of British Architects' annual celebration of a person or group of people who have had a significant influence either directly or indirectly on the advancement of architecture.
With the changes of monarchs, new designs and moulds must be minted especially. We went to the Royal Mint, in Ynysmaerdy, to explore the history of the Royal Gold Medals and witness the incredible production process that goes into every medal.
