Macaulay Rd Level Crossing, Kensington & Abandoned Toilet Block At Kensington Station

Описание: This is the Macaulay Rd level crossing in Kensington, on the Craigieburn line, with footage I took in June 2017 and October 2016.

In 2008, this crossing was ranked the 8th most dangerous level crossing in Victoria, which makes it the most dangerous level crossing not be on included on the list of the 50 crossings to be removed. It is currently the 4th most dangerous, after the crossings at Springvale Rd, Springvale, Springvale Rd, Nunawading, Mitcham Rd, Mitcham, Main Rd, St Albans, and Furlong Rd, St Albans, were since removed

This crossing has:

Two General Signals Type-1 E-bells. The bell on the western end is programmed to sound out after the boom gates have lowered. The bell on the eastern end is programmed to sound continuously until the boom gates rise.

McKenzie & Holland cross-arms on all the crossing, except for the individual signal on the south western side of the crossing, which has a Westinghouse cross-arm

Marked Westinghouse lights on the individual signal on the south western side of the crossing and the upper section of the western boom gate mechanism, unmarked Westinghouse lights on the lower section of the western boom gate mechanism and the individual signal on the north eastern side of the crossing, both one marked and one unmarked Westinghouse lights on the upper section of the eastern boom gate mechanism, and Alstom lights on the lower section of the eastern boom gate mechanism (which is rare in Melbourne). Both individual signals have unmarked bases, with the one on the north eastern side significantly older

There is an interesting find at the adjacent Kensington Railway Station, which I thought I'd include in this video. The inbound platform has a locked off toilet block and waiting rooms, which you can still peek into. I'm not sure how long they have been like this, but they are very much out of use and in a poor state, complete with graffiti, peeling paint and rubbish everywhere. There are a couple of good photos inside the toilet block on Wongm's Rail Gallery from 2014. It's suggested that these toilets are for 'emergency use only'
