Surviving winter in the Middle Ages was brutal for those with little money. The medieval winter began after Martinmas on 11th of November and went on until Candlemas on the 2nd of February. That’s a long time to worry about food, heating and shelter, especially when there are no modern conveniences. Let’s travel back in time to the Middle Ages and take a look at how the poor tried to lessen the distress of a medieval winter with a lot of planning and a good deal of luck.
