The Great Ocean Road stretches for some 300km along the south-eastern coast of Australia. Few other roads in the world can boast such magnificent beauty. But the spectacular scenery hides a dark secret. During the early years of European settlement, over 500 sailing ships were wrecked along this coast. In fact, over 80 ships were lost between Cape Otway and Port Fairy alone. So this section of the coast can well be called “Shipwreck Coast”. The most famous and tragic of all these shipwrecks was the Loch Ard, which sank just off the fatal shores of the Shipwreck Coast at Loch Ard Gorge. There's an amazing story to be told here that you won't want to miss.
