During a search operation in the mountains, his team spotted suspicious movement nearly 2.5 km away. Two men were climbing the hill and later confirmed as terrorists.

Colonel Kothiyal warned them to surrender, but one terrorist suddenly tried to escape. From about 300 yards distance, he opened fire with an LMG and fired multiple magazines. Surprisingly, the terrorist kept running until he got trapped in the rocks.
