These pasties had a meat and vegetable mix on one side and fruit/ jam on the other, creating a "meal in one". There are also plenty of options when it comes to the sweet end: fruits including apples, soft fruits and dried fruits, jams and berries.

It was eaten by Cornish tin and copper miners in the 19th century, who needed a nutritious yet portable meal to last them through the day. Traditional Cornish pasties had the crimp or crust on the side (rather than on top), so the pasty could be held in the fingers whilst eating. This was very important, as the miners fingers were dirty and worse, where there is tin there is often arsenic, which is a highly poisonous substance. Therefore, once eaten, the miners would often discard the crimp or crust.

Although the Cornish pasty industry in the UK is big business, with most supermarkets and grocery stores selling either a savoury or a sweet pasty, most manufacturers have dropped the savoury and sweet tradition (a mix of the two).
