The city was meticulously planned and constructed in the 1950s by the Aluminum Company of Canada (Alcan).

This walking tour video captures the downtown core of Kitimat in 2024, featuring stops at Canada Post and a stroll through Centennial Park. This park commemorates British Columbia’s centennial in Canada from 1871 to 1971 and honours Canadian soldiers who served in major conflicts, including the Second Boer War (1899–1902), World War I (1914–1918), World War II (1939–1945), the Korean War (1950–1953), the Persian Gulf War (1990–1991), and the war in Afghanistan (2001–2014).
