-Governor Henry McMaster has issued a State of Emergency for South Carolina in preparation for the potential impacts of Imelda, stating “While the storm’s arrival, speed and intensity remain hard to predict, we do know it will bring significant wind, heavy rainall and flooding across the ENTIRE state of South Carolina.” South Carolina Emergency Management Division encourages residents to download the SC Emergency Manager App on their cell phones to Review Emergency Plans, Build a Disaster Supply Kit, Plan for Power Outages, create an evacuation plan and receive up to the minute notifications from SCEMD. Should Governor McMaster issue an evacuation order for Beaufort County, we remind you that hotels in South Carolina and bordering states must accept you AND your pets, regardless of coMore information is available at hurricane.sc.
-The Beaufort County Economic Development Corporation will hold Prosperity in Practice: Economic Development in Action today from 8 to 11:30am at Hampton Hall in Bluffton. The event is sold out but you can watch on a rainy morning from the comfort of your home here on BCTV. Key topics are how economic development brings jobs and investment to the County, the significance of regional and statewide partners, Economic perspectives from Beaufort area developers and a prospectus for future growth including emerging industries. The Prosperity in Practice Conference will be simulcast on / @beaufortcountytv .
Beaufort County Schools honored support staff members of the year from school respectively last week at the Port Royal Soud Foundation. Whale Branch Early College High School’s Kelvin Simmons was selected as the District’s Support Staff Member of the Year.

The University of South Carolina Beaufort Women’s Basketball team hosted their 3rd annual Golf Tournament fundraiser at Crescent Pointe Golf Club last week.

The event raised over 35 thousand dollars and is assured to return again next year. More information is available on the University of South Carolina Beaufort Facebook page.
-The South Carolina Department of Public Health encourages all pet owners to have a plan for animal evacuation in the case of a weather event. If rescue officials arrive at your door, they may not allow you to take your pets with you. Prior to evacuation, pet owners are encouraged to photograph their pet, securely fasten a collar and ID tag, use pet carriers and a leash or harness, have at least a weeks’ worth of food, water, medication, litter or other necessary items, and current microchip and vaccination documentation. A full pet emergency kit plus links to pet friendly hotels and motels is available at the Making Plans for your Family Pets page available at dph.sc.gov.
