Cyrell Boyd, an 18 year old from Onamia, Minnesta, took a plea deal in juvenile court on Nov. 12 intended to let him avoid prison for his role in the fatal mass shooting at a south Minneapolis home known as Nudieland in August 2023. August Golden was killed in the shooting after a punk show at the home and six others were shot.
Boyd admitted to one count of aiding another suspect, Dominic Burris, who prosecutors said shot people and who Boyd helped avoid police afterwards. Both were 17 at the time. Burris, now 18, has had his case moved to adult court where he is facing charges including second-degree murder.
Boyd is now headed to a juvenile facility in Red Wing. Prosecutors said he doesn’t have a criminal history and would benefit from treatment there. He agreed to testify against Burris and any others.
Golden’s partner Caitlin Angelica and Tonio Alarcon-Borges, who had a kidney removed after being shot at Nudieland, attended Boyd’s hearing and spoke to him in court. Outside the court, they reflected on the shooting’s impact and Boyd’s plea deal. #nudieland
