Did you know that a 1600 ELO-rated player accidentally invented a new chess gambit opening against the Sicilian Defense for White?

It was played in the Chekhover Variation of the Sicilian Defense, where he introduced the surprising move 6.Qb5.

Here’s the interesting part—at such an early stage of the opening, as early as move 6, it's nearly impossible to invent a new chess opening or novelty. With millions upon millions of chess games already played, finding something new within the first few moves is incredibly rare.

Even when top grandmasters dive deep into opening preparation, their novelty ideas typically emerge around moves 15 or 17, and they rarely alter the course of the game dramatically.

What makes this 1600-rated player’s move 6.Qb5 even more shocking is that it blatantly violates classical chess opening principles: 'Do not move the same piece twice' and 'Do not bring your queen out too early.'

Not only did he bring his queen out early, but he also moved it three times in a row! Yet, despite breaking these fundamental rules, the move turned out to be super tricky with numerous hidden threats!
