The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) held a high-level press conference in New Delhi ahead of the India AI Impact Summit 2026, scheduled from February 16 to 20 at Bharat Mandapam. Chaired by Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the briefing highlighted strong global interest in the summit, the first global AI conclave in the Global South.
News Station Editor Siddharatha raised concerns over whether AI would create or eliminate jobs in India. Responding, the Minister said India’s IT industry is successfully leveraging AI to generate new employment, noting a 33 per cent rise in AI-related hiring. He emphasised large-scale AI talent development, with plans to extend world-class training and infrastructure to 500 universities.
